Figurative, narrative ceramic sculpture, reflective of musings on the journey of life. The work--full of animal and human symbolism-- tells stories of our personal mythologies, which more often than not have universal meaning—a natural expression of being human. The pieces are inspired by paper collage or other sculptures, paintings, or doodles. Often what a piece has to say is unknown until it’s well underway or completed—or sometimes much later. It is this mysterious, unconscious storytelling that inspires the creative process.

The most recent evolution of my stoneware textured vessels will be on display, as I continue to experiment with patterns, texture, and the organic interplay between order and randomness. I try to create pieces which are functional, but also intrigue the eye and demand to be handled. Thinly glazed surfaces highlight the macropatterns and reveal the stoneware clay's microtexture created during the expansion process.

I will also have raku pieces on display. I am working with the contrast between the visual texture of the grey-on-white crackle patterns and the blackened accents. Visit our studio and talk pots for a while.
