Pat Wehrman - Tile Making Workshop

June 2, 2002

Ceramic tile is experiencing a resurgence and decorators and distributors are looking at small studio art tiles. What is art tile? What techniques are used to create it? How does one design a project? How to keep tile flat? What tools are needed? What kind of surface finishes are used? What is absorbency and how to test for it? These are just a few of the questions that will be explored in the lecture session of this workshop. In the hands-on portion, participants will design and make a 12" square tile panel in the incised Cuerda Seca technique that Pat uses.

Artist Background

Pat Wehrman has been a ceramic sculptor and tile maker for over a decade. A latent math and engineering nerd with a penchant for mud, Pat has earned a reputation for figuring things out. Her flair for construction and design, as well as her technical knowledge give Dodge Lane Potters' Group tile its signature style. Each tile put out by DLPG is handmade from wet clay.
