Attend up to four workshops in one day. Pick and chose the workshops you want to attend and pay the low price of $25 for one or for all four. The Clay Carnival workshop will be held at Clay Planet on the 14th of January. There will be three simultaneous clay sessions at any one time. Most of the demonstrations are repeated, allowing you not to miss a clay session while attending another. The topics were chosen, based on the results of the OVCAG members survey. Please bring a brown bag lunch if you plan on being there for the day. We'll provide morning snacks, coffee, tea and water.

Building Your Own Raku Kiln

Backyard Pit firing with Linda Mau

Want to pit fire at home?  Love the effect of Smoked Pottery?  In this demonstration you will learn how to enhance the surfaces of Primitive Fired work with Terra Sigilatta and how to smoke work or do a Pit firing in a Bar-be-que or wash tub AT HOME!

Surface Decoration on Greenware – Norma Lyon

Learn how to erode, crackle, and sprig!  And more!  It's as fun as it sounds!

Creative Process: Improvisation for Life and Art – Sara Swink
Tapping into your inner reaches adds depth and uniqueness to your artistic expression. In this hands-on session we will explore using exercises and ideas designed to access your essential style and personal imagery for any creative undertaking. All levels of experience welcome.

Creativity in Action: Get Seen and Sold! – JD Savelli and Marco Zecchin

Challenging, long-held negative beliefs that artists are terrible business people and marketers are soulless opportunists, JD and Marco are back with a new - and fun - seminar to help all artists focus their creative talents towards marketing their art:

ό     Discover your art’s unique and compelling story

ό     Identify your art buyers and where they can be found

ό     Plan realistic marketing goals, strategies and actions

Enjoy using your creativity to make a living from your art!

Production Throwing Techniques – Dan Dermer

Making 12" cylinders is as easy as 1-2-3... pulls, that is!  Dan will demonstrate throwing techniques that will get you making taller pieces, more quickly, with less clay.  You'll also learn easy methods of throwing matching dinnerware plates and bowls, as well as larger platters.

Sculpture – Tom Decker

Explore sculptural form in ceramics through direct carving, modeling, and assembly without the use of armature. Group exercises, material preparation, tools and techniques will be shared and discussed.

Build Your Own Raku Kiln - Gary Clarien

You've heard it can be done, but didn't know how to start.  So here is a demonstration of an actual kiln being built from scratch.  Although it normally would take longer than a few hours, with clear instructions documented and a visual demonstration, you will learn the basics and be able to "do it yourself".

The workshop will be limited to 100 participants.
