Want to unlock the mysteries of glaze calculation ? Want to learn how to adjust a glaze so that it fits your clay ? Want to discover how to modify your favorite glaze from one cone to another ?

The two-day workshop will introduce us to Ron's use of glaze calculation software. This is an opportunity to understand how a computer-based glaze calculation program works.

Day one will provide background explanations of the use of formulas in glaze work and some detailed explanations for using Ron's glaze workbook, a 30 page document you will use for reference in the future that is included in the registration.

Day two is devoted to showing how to make glazes and clay bodies fit. We'll discuss line blends to help get better colors and see how the glazes fit. Here we get down to some brassier tacks: bring in your glaze recipes and samples that are causing you troubles.

On day two there will be a short presentation of glaze study done by Daniel Semler, an OVCAG member. He is examining substitution for barium in glazes. He will discuss the latest results, highlighting techniques used in performing material substitutions.

On Friday evening before the workshop, Ron will be giving a slide show and talk on his techniques when asked to jury a show. He concentrates on the various aspects of design, specifically on the use of negative space-that part of the pot that isn't there, but which contributes to the whole aspect of the piece. This stresses the importance of space in pottery making, the essence of design aesthetics. What makes a pot sing or zing?

The workshop will be limited to 35 participants.
