Whimsy While you Work: Creating Art That Makes you Smile * Cindy Couling and Peggy Johnston

Cindy and Peggy, who create whimsical ceramic and mixed media art, will discuss and demonstrate their process, as well as provide hands on experience adding whimsy to your work. Each participant needs to bring a finished work of art typical of what they "normally" make. All other materials and handouts will be provided.

Glazing Techniques * Jon Dunlavy

Jon will be talking about different ways to use, alter and fire commercially perpared glazes in order to achieve a wider variety of effects on your finished pieces. Jon will also briefly discuss how you can develop your own glazes from raw materials and some different approaches to firing them.

Thrown Rings: New Dimensions in Donuts! * Nic Bonotto

Nic, a local high school ceramics teacher and artist with Blossom Hill Crafts, will show us how he throws what can only be described as donuts and then turns them into decorative and functional vessels. Nic will take us thru forming, trimming and utilizing these tubes and offer up suggestions for further exploration of the form. Come and learn a new and creative technique to add to your repertoire.

Mud Pies R Us * Susan Worley

Want to facilitate clay experiences for children ages 6-12 years old? This engaging workshop is for you - whether you are a classroom teacher, scout leader or artist who loves clay. You can introduce children to the fun of making art from clay after taking this hands-on, role playing, question & answer style workshop. Take home a clay animal that you create!
Susan Worley is a K-12 credentialed art instructor who teaches adults - as well as children and their parents - clay skills for several local organizations

Opening and Maintaining and ETSY Store * Isabelle Hoogland

Isabelle will walk you through each step of opening an Etsy Store on-line. In an easy to follow fashion she will show you how quickly and easily you can begin selling your work through the internet. In addition, she will give you tips and ideas on how to keep your work at the front of the line, making sure your work gets seen and improving sales!

Photographing Your Ceramic Art * Dan Dermer

Dan will show an inexpensive yet effective digital photography set-up capturing high resolution images of your work. You will learn approaches to photographing glossy vs. matte surfaces, and observe ways to make your basic digital camera produce pictures with depth and detail. Dan will also demonstrate how to crop/edit/resize pictures, enhance exposure, contrast and color with simple Windows PC editing tools. A few works from participants will be selected to demonstrate the above techniques - so bring an item with you!

The Finer Points of Making a Teapot * George Dymesich

George, a UC Santa Cruz instructor who studied in Japan, will demonstrate how to make the perfect teapot. From the tip of the spout to lids and handle placement, George will let you in on his 30 plus years of experience.

New Ways to Use Texture Mats * Lynn Wood

Lynn will demonstrate how she uses her line of texture mats as she shows us how she makes vases and cups. You will learn how Lynn combines standard hand building techniques with unorthodox textures and methods to create beautiful and unique pieces.
